Sweet
There was nothing sweet in the whole house, except for Mother’s diet caramels hidden at the bottom of her armoire. Lola took two and replaced them with small stones from the neighbors’ koi pond. Walking backward toward the bedroom door, she expertly raked the shag carpeting until her footsteps disappeared.
