Litter Box

cleaning my trunk,
this was waiting

to be scrubbed and moved
into my home
beside my bedside

because it’s my
best friend’s litter box,
because the cancer
took her away too soon.

can’t return it, so I keep it
where nothing shits on

our relationship,
all the good advice
shared, and now

my cat just took a dump
in it when I wasn’t looking
