Youth with Theremin
You played war in the churchyard
before time shuffled you
like a hurried card trick
into drum lines and fields
of play that led to beer kegs
and tremors with someone
in the tall grass. Soon, you hear
a wavy theremin
like from an old Twilight
Zone episode, but it's
just you, walking by the old
church in middle age
with crickets droning
over sounds of children at war
long past supper.
