Aquatic Ape Theory
The water left us
with no calluses – taught
us to move through
but not against, did not prepare us
for the mineral drag of gravity
on bone. We learned to breathe,
but not to drain the ocean
from our joints,
waiting instead on the moon
to draw our cells up nightly
from the well,
make them sit a little
lighter.
