Unmothered: She was taught from the cradle never to cry

Karen Apps lives and works in the UK, in the small town of Southend-on-Sea, about 40 miles from London. She graduated from Camberwell College of Arts with an MA Book Arts in 2012. Attachment issues are a recurring theme throughout her work and she explores these through various media including drawing, photography and artist’s books. She is curious about how separation from a parent in infancy can impact an individual’s sense of self and how this can be interpreted in visual form. www.karenapps.com
