Not of Birds
I learned today that in the valley there are no black crows. We have other types of black birds but no crows. Today I learned to listen to red flags that come as anxiety, that come as broken promises, that come as missed dates, that come as cancelled flights. Today I learned be careful with asking of the universe. Today I relearned that damaged birds often need help beyond what one person can do. Today I learned sick birds seek to fill holes left behind by others. I learned today that some damaged creatures are unwilling to take the steps to relearn different ways of living. Today I learned that grackles sit side by side with enough space in between to allow their wings to open and fly away.
