Baking
At my solo table,
it is surely a pleasant thing,
to turn the pages of my
Fine Cooking July issue
and mark the cakes
I still have time to make.
I admire those who stride
instead of shuffle,
know they aren’t my people anymore.
I memorize green and pocket the sounds
of a midnight thunderstorm.
The bittersweet vining up my core
prepares its deep red berries.
Fresh is still my favorite color.
Sandra Kacher, a poet from Minnesota, comes to writing poetry after years of hearing about the inner lives of hundreds of therapy clients. Touched by Mary Oliver, and heartened by Billy Collins she brings a heart for beauty and an ear for music to her writing. Poetry keeps her open, fights off cynicism in a world that often leaves her listless. Her first poetry collection, First Confession is available on Amazon.
