Continental Divide



Hiking above treeline in the Rocky Mountains several months after our marriage, my wife surprises me by saying, “Of course we are going to get divorced one day.” Breathtaking, snow-covered, fourteen-thousand-foot peaks encircling us, I ask her why she feels this way. She doesn’t answer my question, and instead wonders aloud if we’ll be turning around soon.
