Billboards
A billboard along I-70 declares:
Boots
Bullets
Britches
Bologna,
and I am reminded
of the American cowboy
that traversed this land
bringing cattle to market,
feeding the proliferation of settlers.
Another tattered advertisement –
presumably for a dentist –
is faded near completely
leaving only a smile like a Cheshire cat,
like fading cowboys.
