Julio Del Rio assembles small militias of powerful and strange, sometimes humanoid, ceramic figures (frequently seen on paper or canvas as well). Many of the figures sport a skin etched with text or symbols, glazed in bursts of color, and his paintings are densely packed with detail, verging on psychedelic. Del Rio takes a quietly enthusiastic and multidisciplinary approach to his creative process, materializing his artistic vision very directly into paint, clay and glaze.
